Tehran, January 31 (Xinhua) — Gao Wencheng, Wang ShoubaoIran has submitted a written proposal to the parties involved in the joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) negotiations and is waiting for the United States to make a political decision on the issue, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Khatibzad said Sunday.Khatibzadeh said at a regular press conference that the Iranian nuclear talks held in Vienna have made progress on many issues, but there are still pending issues such as the lifting of sanctions, which need to be decided by the Western countries involved in the talks. He suggested that the US focus on responding to Iran’s “reasonable demands” and not make demands beyond the scope of the nuclear deal.Khatibzadeh said if the other parties respond appropriately to Iran’s demands once talks resume, a credible and lasting agreement can be reached and there is no need to set a deadline for negotiations. In July 2015, Iran reached a nuclear deal with the United States, The United Kingdom, France, Russia, China and Germany. In May 2018, the US government unilaterally withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal, and subsequently renewed and added a series of sanctions against Iran.Since May 2019, Iran has gradually suspended the implementation of some provisions of the nuclear deal, but promised that the measures taken are “reversible”.The parties to the Iran nuclear agreement will hold talks in Vienna in April 2021 to discuss the resumption of the implementation of the agreement between the United States and Iran. The United States is indirectly involved in the negotiations. The eighth round of negotiations was launched in Vienna on December 27, 2021.The European Union’s external Action Service deputy secretary General, Jose Moura, said Thursday that the eighth round of talks had been suspended and negotiators would return home next week.
